At Rock Hill, these are the things that we value deeply. They define us...
Truth:We believe that truth
exists outside of ourselves; it is not something that we create. We also believe
that the Bible is God’s specific revelation of himself to his creation. Therefore, we
seek to know, love and submit to the truth that he has revealed. In fact, we believe that
one of the marks of an authentic follower of Jesus is the willingness to bring
oneself under the authority of the Bible.
(Lk 6:46-49, Jn 8:31-32,
17:17, 2 Tim 3:16-17, 2 Pet 1:20-21)
Prayer:Prayer is the central work
of our ministry; everything else is the result. We make every effort, both
individually and corporately, to pray first and then as we listen, to respond in obedience.
(Lk 18:1, 1 Thess 5:16-21,
Eph 6:19-20, Col 4:12)
Relationships:God is a relational God,
and He has made us to be relational people. He exists in a
perfect balance of Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Therefore, we view everything we do through
the lens of relationships, and we strive for authenticity, purity and accountability in every
relationship. As we live out genuine community with one another, our prayer is that
Jesus’ words might be shown true in our city—”By this all men will know that you are
my disciples, if you demonstrate love for one another.”
(Jn 13:35, Gen 2:18, 1 Cor
12, Eph 4:11-16, Rom 12:4-8)
Devotion:What we do, we do with all
of our hearts. We believe that life is
purposeful and exciting.
Therefore, we give God nothing less than our best—even if this includes making
significant sacrifices and being uncomfortable. Our goal as followers of Jesus is to
bring every area of our lives under his control.
(Rom 12:1-2, Phil 1:20-21,
2 Tim 2:1-7)
Simplicity:The simpler things are, the
more time we have for relationships.
We are committed to saying “no”
to some things that are good so that we can pursue God’s best acknowledging
that this is counter-cultural. Additionally, we desire to plant new churches, and as we
remain simple, we more easily reproduce ourselves.
(Lk 10:41-42, Ps 27:4, Phil
1:20-21, 2 Tim 2:1-7)
Mission:God is a sending Father who
sent his son Jesus into the world to seek and save the lost. We have been
sent by Jesus to do likewise. Every person in our church has been called to be a
missionary—to the Twin Ports and to the nations. Therefore, we will venture far into the
culture to share both the message and love of Christ realizing that most of the ministry of
Rock Hill takes place outside of our weekly gathering.
